The Page Turners: Tween Summer Book Club!

If your child is a Terrific Tween (ages 8–12) and loves reading, meeting new friends, and chatting about awesome characters, incredible plots, and meaningful messages, The Page Turners Summer Book Club is for them!

We’ll kick off the club at Handel’s Ice Cream, where members will meet each other, pick up their books, and enjoy a treat together! Then we’ll meet three times over the summer to talk about each book, share ideas, and hear everyone’s thoughts on the stories!

This Summer’s Books

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

A gorilla named Ivan has lived in a shopping mall for years, but when a baby elephant arrives, he begins to see his world differently and tries to change their future.

The First State of Being by Erin Entrada Kelly

In 1999, twelve-year-old Michael meets a boy who claims to be from the future, leading him into a story about friendship, time, and belonging.

The Lemonade War: Graphic Novel Adaptation by Jacqueline Davies, illustrated by Karen De la Vega

Siblings Evan and Jessie turn a lemonade stand into a competition that becomes a summer “war” full of strategy, emotions, and surprises.

Details

The Page Turners book club will be led by Emily, owner of Nook & Cranny Book Wagon, who holds a B.A. in Secondary Education with a minor in English. The purpose of The Page Turners is to help young readers build confidence discussing books and discovering that their ideas matter!

Your child’s $60 Page Turners membership includes:

  • A brand-new paperback copy of all three books

  • A snack at each meeting supporting local cafes and shops!

  • A simple reading guide to help kids stay on track

  • Friendly email check-ins between meetings

  • Three one-hour meetings with guided discussion, engaging questions, fun activities, and plenty of time to share thoughts!

A parent or guardian of members must stay on-site during meetings. This is not a drop-off program. However, parents are welcome to hangout anywhere within the building/restaurant/shop where we will be holding our meetings :-)
